Why Won't That Darn Weight Come Off?

You started your New Year's resolution to lose weight and tone up on January 1st.  You just weighed in and nothing has changed!  How frustrating is that?!?  Here are three reasons why that pudge won't budge:

1.  You don't exercise enough.  Housework does not count.  Being on your feet all day does not count.  Some forms of what qualifies for exercise; a brisk, arm-pumping walk that gets you out of breath; a rigorous bike ride that involves hills; lifting weights; and any aerobics or fitness class.  Do at least 30 minutes of heart-pumping exercise every day.

2.  Not exercising hard enough.  You can't just go through the motions.  You need to be working out hard enough to be breathing hard.  You need to break a sweat!  Some people are afraid to get out of breath.  They don't like the way it feels.  It's uncomfortable to them and that's because they are not used to it.  You may never get used to it.  You need to work out with gusto!  The weight isn't going to come off by magic, you've got to work for it.

3.  Not lifting weights.  I can't stress enough how important weight lifting is, especially for women.  Weight training is not just for men.  In fact, the people that need to lift weights more than any other is the older, peri- and post menopausal women, to help prevent osteoporosis and slash breast cancer risk.  Weight lifting makes those flabby muscles appear tighter and firmer, making you look leaner and younger and what woman wouldn't want that?

So, exercise daily; break a sweat and get out of breath; lift those weights!  These three things will help you drop those pounds, tone the muscles and look and feel your best.
